Royston’s Rugby’s under 10 side retained the Cambridgeshire county cup at the weekend
After winning last season’s championship Royston knew they were the team everyone wanted to beat
The opening fixture was against hosts Ely, Royston wanted to make a strong first impression and despatched them by 8 try’s to nil
Next up was St Ives – st ives battled hard to keep the score down to 2-nil at half time, Royston went up through the gears and raced into a 8-nil lead which they help till the end
The next fixture was repeat of last year’s final against local rivals Shelford, Shelford were keen for revenge and threw the kitchen sink at Royston who defended resolutely and took the chance clinically to win 4-nil
Wendon Ambo were up next – as the other form team in the county this was the test – Royston took the lead, Wendons hit back, Royston took it again, and wendons came back for 2-2, wave after wave of Royston attacks were repelled and but for a dropped ball here and there Royston would have been worthy winners but the game petered out to a hard fought draw
The Final fixture was against Wisbeach – wisbeach had some pace out wide so Royston went direct, and Royston’s power play saw them win 3 try’s to nil
All in all 25 try’s scored and only 2 conceded
The cup retained and won for 3 out of last 4 seasons and this incredible little team marches on
