Royston work their magic at Camelot

Royston U14s made the trip to Hemel Hempstead on Sunday 22nd September for their opening match of the 2024/5 season.

This friendly saw a number of players playing out of their usual positions, however this did not prevent a strong performance being displayed by the Crows.

Royston opened the scoring with some quick play to Arthur Love, who broke through a displaced defensive line to score 5 points under the posts. Two points were added from the boot of Jon Green.

A second try from Love quickly followed and again, this was converted by Green.
However Camelot quickly organised their defence and kept Royston at bay for the remainder of the half. A reverse penalty gave Camelot the advantage and they were able to cross the line at half time to make the score a respectable 7 - 14.

The second half saw a change in the weather conditions which resulted in unforced handling errors from both teams. The Royston scrum was strong with a credible performance from debutant and player of the match Jack Green.

A fast play from a scrum initiated by Scrum Half William Foster, who had a strong game, out to Toby Cook saw a 50 metre run to the line for 5 more points and the conversion saw Royston take a commanding lead.

The remainder of the half was a tight affair with both sets of forwards working hard and rucking well

Camelot were able to break the Royston defence at the end of the match to add 7 points.

The final score of 14 - 21 was a fair reflection of the match and sets the mark for the season with opportunities to improve by both sides.

Royston play their next match against Nomads at the heath on Sunday 29th September against Nomads in a HML pool game.
